Have you ever tried the ‘trouser mezzo swagger’? – you know – that irresistible combination of bravado and nonchalance which some performers use to strut about on stage. If not do have a go at the earliest opportunity – I can highly recommend it as a therapeutic activity.
Now this may not come naturally to some of you [ I had to force myself the very first time .. imagine being a swagger virgin at my age, well, at any age actually ] so here are some tips ….
- Places to swagger
Anywhere with enough space to be the most effective. I can recommend the wide isle of the supermarket if you really want to turn heads, but do make sure you are not carrying a basket or, worse still, pushing a trolly or the effect will be totally lost and your credibility as a swaggerer will be compromised.
- Dress code for sensational swaggering.
Whatever you find appropriate for your swaggering venue and whatever makes you feel good. As you can see below, army fatigues and DMs are very appropriate [ and hot! ] but not, alas, in everyones’ wardrobe. Just make sure that the sway of the shoulders is visible and the footwear enhances the boldness of your stride and movement.
- Timing of your first swagger.
If you need an ego boost get going right now but make sure you are ready for all the attention you are bound to receive.
- How to build up swaggering confidence.
Practice makes perfect. You may have to practice in front of a mirror until you are confident enough to try out in public. If you have swagger-conscious friends then they may be able lend encouragement or positive suggestions.
- Why swagger at all?
Why not? It’s legal, harmless and leads to a sense of well-being in the swaggerer – and in the fortunate observers.
